5 Tips for Parents to bring out the best in their their Children

Good parenting skills are always acquired with time. In order to become the best parent one has to keep on learning. Parenting is not something which can be taught in a school. And no one can become the best parent from Day 1. So take your first step towards being the 'best parent' and understand the suggested ways which can help improve your parental skills.

1. Praise Their Effort And The Process, Not Ability

Not praising your child's efforts will lead to lower levels of motivation, lower performance and shying away from challenges. They will be less likely that they'll grow up enjoying learning and wanting to excel. Whereas ability is something very individual. Each child has a pace of learning and understanding. They should not be restricted from exploring their potential.

2. Appreciate their Honesty

It takes immense courage to tell the truth, no matter what your age is. For your child to embrace honesty parents should praise their child and show your appreciation every time they tell the truth. This will not only help us stay connected with your child but also model good behaviour.

3. Encourage them to follow their passion

As parents, it’s our job to help our children discover their passion and do everything in our power to support it. It is not our job to tell our children what they should be, but rather what they could be. Start by looking for sparks in your child at a young age. Do not restrict them to do anything they like, whether its playing sports or making art. Guide and encourage them to pursue their own choice of career.

4. Avoid comparing your child with others.

Comparison of a child is generally made with the intention of motivating the child to excel. But it produces a contradictory effect where the child feels low because it hurts their selfesteem and lowers their confidence. Parents need to understand that, Each Child is Unique and that they have different strengths and aptitudes.

5. Be a Good Role Model and Good Person

Don't do anything in front of your children that you wouldn't want them to do. If you find yourself exhibiting behavior that you don't want to be mimicked by your child, then it's a sign you should change how you react in certain situations. It's important that they see you managing this all to the best of your abilities.
